THE BACKSTORY TO BUYING THE FILLY:

We know the family well. As a minor shareholder we bought into the dam a few years ago and liked the Exosphere filly she produced so purchased her for $100,000 at last year’s Inglis sale.

So far that filly has only trialled but Kris believes when fully mature she will do well based on what she has shown so far.

The syndicate that owns the mare and bred this filly decided to generate some cash and the group decided to sell her to cover the upcoming Stallion fees. We know from our dealings with her that she’s a very straight forward filly who has always been fit and healthy.

She’s always had a bit of personality too and is more an Alpha Female in her paddock.

KRIS LEES’ COMMENTS:

”She looks to have a bit more substance to the one we have at present and given she is from that good pedigree she certainly looks a good buy.

Exolay which is the half sister is a natural racehorse and to be fair she wasn’t supposed to get as far as she did in her first preparation, but she was very professional and pleased me so much I decided to give her a soft trial in which she surprised me.

Not in terms of ability but just that she was strong enough to handle the trial. She has a lot of growing to do and with this one having a bit more substance we think she is worth a punt.

The money is that good in NSW country horses can win $80-100k these days so she seems a good gamble . I love Flying Spur mares and being from that family is only a plus.” – Kris Lees

THE PLAN:

All going well she will be broken-in in the next 6-8 weeks, then given time to mature.

She will have a slight advantage over most of her generation as breaking her in early usually gives them a growth spurt, we can educate them quicker and more thoroughly this way.

She will go through our very thorough process of training and education and being the first group of Impending, who is by Lonhro, we think she will look half price at the end of the seasons sales.

Most first season popular sires like Impending sell for 5 to 8 times service fee so with a filly like this selling for only 3.5 times we think she is a good buy.
